Michael Forrest 1955-2020

Michael, or Mike as he liked to be called, was at Fitzwilliam College from 1974-1977. He graduated with an honours degree in Natural Sciences and went on to obtain a Masters. He then taught chemistry at St Bartholomew’s School in Newbury, Berkshire.

I met Mike in 1978 and we were married in April 1980.

Mike worked in Newbury until 1985 when he secured a place as a chemistry teacher at Wisbech Grammar School, going on to become Deputy Head (Academic) until he retired in 2017, after more than 36 years in teaching.

He was well known in the community of Wisbech, being involved with various projects. He helped with the Reads Group, which promotes reading with children in primary schools and putting on various activities. He was a governor of one of the local primary schools and was also on the board of the Ferry Project, a homeless project in Wisbech. He was also one of the leaders of the King’s Church where he regularly played keyboard or his clarinet. He had a great love for classical music. He also took a photography course and was going to focus more on his photography in his retirement.

Sadly, in August 2020 he was diagnosed with cancer and after a short illness passed away on 27 November 2020.

He had three children, one who followed in his footsteps and has just qualified as a teacher. He also had five grandchildren whom he adored.

He loved coming to Cambridge and having the freedom to look round the colleges.
